Hell yeah! Let's do it! If you want to go with the more tech-savvy races, Gnomes, Kobolds and Dwarves are probably the closest thing. If you want to play off of really different folks, Genasi, Dragonborn and Tieflings may be more up your alley? And, if you want some classics, Elves (and half-elves) and Orcs or half-orcs are always an option.

There are a lot more but those are some off the top of my head.

Also, Suzaku has been threatening to have Oran meet Lloyd and has already told him your dude's secret weakness to pudding, so... you know, be ready to be plied with bribes in exchange to learn how to fly robots??
